HYDERABAD: In a shocking case, a husband in Telangana's Hyderabad allegedly burned his 25-year-old wife alive for not securing a seat in the MBBS medical entrance examination.

The deceased, identified as Harika, got admission in Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) this year but failed to qualify for MBBS.

"The deceased girl, Harika's parents had filed a FIR at the LB Nagar police station stating that their son-in-law Rishi Kumar had allegedly burnt their daughter alive for not securing a seat in the medical entrance and he was also continuously harassing her for the additional dowry", the inspector at LB Nagar police station said.

However, the accused has denied all the allegations and claimed that Harika committed suicide, reports Zeenews

"Harika's husband claims she committed suicide, but after we visited the scene, it appears to be a murder. We suspect that the man killed his wife," ACP (LB Nagar division) Venugopala Rao said.

"Harika and Rushi got married two years ago. He had been harassing her as she didn't get an MBBS seat. She got (admission in) BDS this year. He also harassed her for dowry... It is a planned murder," Harika's mother and sister told NDTV

The body has been sent for the autopsy and a case has been registered under sections 304(B) and 302 of the IPC.

The investigation is on and further details are awaited.
