Shocking : MBBS student draws a teacher salary fraudulently for 5 years

Imphal: An MBBS student of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) has been discovered to be allegedly indulging in a fraud by drawing a monthly salary as a Primary teacher under the Education (s) Department, for the last 5 to 6 years.


According to a local daily, the MBBS student was selected as an SSA teacher a few months after being enrolled into the MBBS course at JNIMS. He is believed to have been withdrawing /getting a primary teacher's all these years. He was enrolled in the MBBS course in 2012.


Identified as Md Taj Muhammad s/o Md Dim Muhammad of Mayang Imphal Bengun, sources admit to him having accrued a sum of ten lakh, as salary from the school.


Sources reveal that ZEO, Zone-I has been ordered to recover the entire sum withdrawn by him within a period of six months.If one is unable to pay up, an FIR is to be lodged and necessary action taken against the errant individual.


Suspicions became rife last year when the department began to suspect his involvement in the illegal withdrawal of salary, as an SSA Primary Teacher despite being enrolled in an MBBS course at JNIMS. The suspicion led to investigations by the department.


The investigation gathered momentum under the new Education Minister and the new Director and finally Md Taj Mahammad's appointment as an SSA Primary Teacher dated September 25, 2012, was cancelled on Saturday.


Kiran Kumar Education (S) Director issued a withdrawal of money order on Saturday directing the ZEO Zone I to recover the money from him in a period of 6 months.


Md Taj Muhammad started attending regular class at JNIMS from August 28, 2012. He is still attending the course regularly according to an investigation report submitted by Dean (Academic) JNIMS to the Education Director


The fraud committed by him surfaced when he was transferred from the original posting at Konthoujam Maning Tribal Primary School, Imphal West and he raised an objection to another teacher being posted in his place at the original school.


The authorities who had sniffed foul play put his salary on hold his salary was put on hold resulting in him not being able to continue with the fraud.


According to the source, Md Taj Muhammad has been ordered to pay up the amount of salary he withdrew as an SSA primary teacher without taking any classes after he enrolled for MBBS course at the earliest, reports Kangla Online.
