Shimla Medical College: Four 2nd year MBBS students suspended for Ragging

First-year MBBS students in Indira Gandhi Medical College have alleged that they were ragged during a rehearsal a day before the Fresher Party.

Shimla: At the largest medical institute running in the Himachal Pradesh, Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), four second-year MBBS students have been suspended for ragging first-year medicos at a freshers' party. In addition, the accused MBBS students have also been suspended from the medical college hostel.


According to recent media accounts, in this case, the college administration has received an audio clip in a mail sent by an anonymous medico, in which the statements pertaining to the ragging of the MBBS freshers had been recorded. On the basis of this clip, the college administration suspended the accused MBBS students with immediate effect and gave the matter to the police along with the clip showing the ragging menace. College administration has also written to the families of the accused MBBS students informing them of the said suspension of their wards.


On the other hand, certain sources told Tribune that the development came after a video showing some senior MBBS students of the college allegedly harassing juniors at a freshers' party went viral.


Punjab Kesari reports that the first year MBBS students in Indira Gandhi Medical College have alleged that they were ragged during a rehearsal a day before the Fresher Party. Subsequently, the MBBS medicos had lodged an online complaint on Anti Ragging Helpline. After receiving the complaint, the College's Principal had convened a meeting of Anti Ragging Committee taking action on the crucial matter.


College Principal Ravi Sharma informed Tribune that a first-year MBBS student filed a complaint against the four students. "An anonymous person sent us an audio clip that made it clear that the senior students were verbally abusive. They were suspended with immediate effect. We've sent the evidence to the police," he said.
