Bihar: IGIMS Convocation gives away gold medals to 13 toppers

Patna: The convocation ceremony of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) this Saturday, saw twelve MBBS toppers and one PG topper being awarded gold medals . The State Health Minister, Tej Pratap Yadav who was the Chief Guest at the function gave away degrees to 20 paramedics ,78 MBBS, 20 postgraduate, three super specialty course students .


Ankita Choudhary was awarded for being the overall topper of 2011 MBBS batch. Ritambara Gautam bagged seven medals while Nimisha got two. Among the other toppers were Pushkar Kumar, Sivali Sinha, Suprabha Suchi, Vaibhav O P Pandey, Kushboo Rani, Garima, Sadhana Kumari and Madhurima.


PG passout Dr Jay Prakash was awarded Shri Rameshwar Paswan-Dr K H Raghvendra gold medal in MD (Anaesthesiology).


The toppers of paramedical courses include Pooja Gupta, Soni Kumari, Neeti Shikha, Anupam Ashish, Bandana Jyoti, Aparna Rashmi, Akansha Kriti, Sanila Shree, Bhujeet Kumar and Swati Kumari.


Addressing the convocation, Minister Yadav said the institute would face no funds crunch, looking at the stupendous achievements of the institution last year. He was referring to the successful Kidney transplants undertaken by IGIMS, reports TOI.


The IGIMS Director, Dr N R Biswas, who presented the annual report of the institute, highlighted 18 kidney and 125 eye transplants conducted last year, as major achievements of the institutions. He informed that the bed strength in the ICU has increased from 9 to 20. This High dependency unit (HDU), he said had also come into existence last year. "Two dedicated OTs for organ transplants are ready and the equipment is being installed," he revealed.


Speaking about the year’s priorities, Dr. Biswas spoke about the institute now being ready to conduct liver transplants. He requested the special guest on the Occasion, Dr SK Sarin, Director Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences', Delhi to extend IGIMS all support in the endeavour. Dr Sarin in his response to the request promised all assistance by his team, provided the IGIMS was supported in terms of equipment by the state government.
