Kochi: The State Government has come under severe criticism by the Kerala High Court which has admonished it for having messed up student admissions to Self Financing Medical Colleges this year.

Responding to petitions filed with regards to this by students, a division bench of the Court stated that government actions related to admissions were ending up complicating things and creating difficulty for students.

The Court observed that despite the Supreme Court and High Court having issued simple directives, as the matter involved student admissions, the government actions were turning out to be quite the opposite, of the intended.

The Court reminded the state that its directive had asked institutions to accept demand drafts and bank guarantees towards fee in the name of the Entrance Commissioner.

However, it was observed that the 19th August order issued by the government, asked the students to furnish securities in the name of the colleges to which they were admitted.

The Court felt the government order would place the students in a subservient position, for in the eventuality of a change in college, they would have to turn to college managements for financial retrievals.

The bench queried on the existing vacant seats, despite allotments having been made. It wondered whether the existing vacancies would result in colleges giving them away to their chosen candidates. The state has been asked to file a reply to the above questions, by Tuesday, reports TOI.
