Security intensified at HIMS following recent attack on Doctors

Security has been beefed up at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) following attack on Junior Doctors.


Entry of more than one person to the emergency ward was restricted and two security guards have been posted at the entrance. The guards have been told not to allow more than one person along with the patient. Besides this, the police outpost, which was earlier located in a remote corner has been relocated to a place near the emergency care section.


K Shankar, Medical Superintendent of HIMS, said We have taken measures to tighten security. Entry of people into the emergency section has been restricted. We have put railings to avoid entry of public.


He said that 126 Staff Nurses had been appointed and they would report to duty soon. 'Once the staff strength is improved we can provide better service to the public'.


Recently junior doctors were attacked by relatives of a patient. The institute had filed a complaint with the police, following which five people were arrested. The arrested were released on bail.


Following the incident and release of arrested on bail, the Junior Doctors Association members had demanded amendment to the act and sufficient protection to the staff on duty.
