Puducherry: Centralized Admission Committee (Centac) held 2nd round of counseling in Puducherry left a total of twenty postgraduate medical seats of the total 84 seats under government quota, and 44 out of 81 seats under the management quota in three private medical colleges and hospitals vacant.

The students were asked to register objections if any, before 5 pm Thursday by the committee after it released the allotment lists on Wednesday. The candidates who were allotted seats under management quota were asked to pay the forfeiture fees before the deadline. Allotment of all the seats was done during the 2nd round counseling held in the Indira Gandhi government medical college and research institute.

The committee reserved one seat in general medicine under government quota in Sri Venkateshwara medical college and hospital (SVMC) following a directive from the Madras High Court.

Management seats were allotted in the Pondicherry Institute of medical sciences (PIMS) (religious minority: Christians) and SVMC (linguistic minority: Telugu) for the respective minority students.

Allotment lists were generated through a computer module based on the merit, reservation, and preference of the candidate. It also extended horizontal reservation as per existing norms.

Meanwhile, a few aspirants who despite being allocated seats in the ist round chose to go through the 2nd for up gradation complained that the up gradation was not done reported TOI.

They stated that specialties they sought in the colleges were allotted to candidates ranked below them in the merit list. Sources put the blame of this anomaly to a software error and assured provisional allotment list revision.
