New Delhi: Chief Justice of India, Justice Deepak Mishra immediately after having been sworn in as Chief Justice took on a bench hearing on counselling and admission process to medical courses time frame.

The time frame is being reviewed by the court due to the various hurdles faced by medical colleges and the Medical Council of India, in on time seat allotments. The other judges present on the bench were Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, reports India Legal.

The hearing was conducted in response to an application submitted by universities saying that there were a large number of seats vacant and requesting for an extension of the mop-up round dates.

The court gave the following directives in the case in an order:

  • Time for Mop up round counselling is extended till 7.9.2017.

  • This extension shall only be applicable to the deemed universities and none else.

  • Any application by any other college or institution seeking extension shall not be entertained.

  • The competent authority, i.e., Director General of Health Services shall put up the list on the website and send it by e-mail to each of the deemed university by 8.00 p.m. today itself.

  • The candidates whose names shall feature in the list should be NEET qualified.

  • The ratio shall remain at 1:10. At this juncture, it is urged on behalf of the deemed universities that if need be and in order to maintain the ratio of 1:10, in case of a deficit in the list meant for deemed universities, the names from the larger NEET list may be provided. As long as for the seats which have fallen vacant, the ratio is maintained at 1:10, we do not perceive any difficulty. If 1:10 ratio is not sufficient, the Director General of Health Services is granted liberty to get into the larger NEET list.
