3 Sawai Man Singh Medical College students detected with Swine Flu

Jaipur: Three students of the S K Menon Hostel of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College were detected with swine flu,, spreading panic among the other hostel inmates.


SMS Hospital administration confirmed the news, however, the health department officials claimed to have found only one case of swine flu.


"We have conducted screening of students for swine flu in four hostels but we have found one such case. We have isolated him in his room," said a senior health department official.

He informed that another case of a medical student who had earlier tested positive for swine flu had of late tested negative for it.

Mentioning the scare against the epidemic in the SK Menon Hostel he said that these cases have been reported a day after Officers Training School was vacated by the state government following seven trainee Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) officers being diagnosed with swine flu.

A medical college official conceded to 3 MBBS students suffering from this influenza-like illness for the past few days. When the Sawai Man Singh Medical College sent their samples for testing, they were found infected with swine flu virus he added.

The College administration is now alert on swine flu following detection of swine flu cases

The administration immediately mobilized facilities for testing and examining the health of medical college students within the premises of S K Menon Hostel.
The students were seen wearing masks to ward off the risk of getting infected with swine flu virus.

An inspection of the hostel was also undertaken by the authorities and Tamiflu tablets given to students suspected to be swine flu cases.


"Twenty-one samples of suspected were tested from among the students. Three were tested positive for swine flu," Dr. S S Yadav, spokesperson, SMS Hospital told TOI.


With one swine flu patient hospitalized, two of the three, are getting treatment in isolation at their rooms.


SMS Hospital, this year, saw 11661 persons registered with influenza-like illness. However, 1343 were tested positive in 2017. According to official estimates, 60 persons died of swine flu in the hospital.
