Rs 11.87 crore facelift to Kerala Government Medical College

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Rs 11.87 crore facelift project for all government medical college hospitals in the state submitted by the Director, Medical Education have been approved by the finance department. The approval will change the picture of old rusty cots, shabby and unhygienic wards and toilets into brand new cots and beds lining the wards and toilets carrying a clean air and smelling of disinfectants.


The fund released by the finance department is titled ‘creation of patient-friendly hospital environment’.


The changes under this project would lead to the creation of Special waiting and dining areas for bystanders in all MCHs, in order to put an end to food being eaten inside the wards and corridors of the hospitals. In addition, more canteen facilities will also be provided.


More laundry and automatic cleaning facilities will be provided, apart from floor cleaning and sweeping machines. Water purifiers that can dispense hot water and installation of movable dustbins inwards to avoid littering are also planned under this project.


Patient transfer cum emergency care, ICU beds with x-ray compatibility for trauma care victims. Modern wheelchairs, patient-friendly cushioned trolleys will be some of the other facilities provided.


The other facelifts would involve a public address system with electronic display boards in the OPDs, CCTV surveillance, TV sets in all the waiting areas.


New toilet facilities, paintings in the wards, new floors, and new lighting system are some of the other additional facelifts planned under the project, reports TOI.
