RIMS, Srikakulum asked to submit compliance for 50 MBBS seat addition

Srikakulum: Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Medical College and Teaching Hospital ’s, desire to add another 50 seats to the already existing 100 was turned down by the Medical Council of India (MCI), experts in May, this year. The denial came on the discovery of discrepancies in all the wings of the college including faculty shortages.


The Council visit in May at the request of the college authorities had it speaking of the renovation of equipment at the central sterilization units and ophthalmology wing. The everyday footfall at the hospital numbers 1200 outpatient, and 400 inpatient admissions. The hospital, the team observed had a total of 500 beds and 21 departments.


The team observed that 60 faculty positions of professors, associate, and assistant professors stood vacant. In addition to it, six senior and another six junior resident doctors were required to provide impeccable healthcare services at RIMS reported Hans India.


At the mother and child healthcare (MCHC) ward 6 as against the required 27 medical officers from professor to the junior resident, were available. Similar discrepancies were found in the other departments. The MCI team after examining all the units raised objections and demanded that all Council norms be met with. With compliance submitted, the MCI will visit RIMS again said its Director, A Krishna Veni. Resident Medical Officer (RMO), Dr. B Ch Appala Naidu expressed similar thoughts.
