Research Focus: SVIMS launches an advanced facility Centre

Tirupati: An advanced Facility Centre for Advanced Research (CFAR) was launched on Friday by Sri Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences( SVIMS) and is to be seen as its big leap forward in research (SVIMS). The facility centre has been funded by a substantial donation of Rs. 12 crore by Vital Laboratories Private Limited (VLPL),Mumbai, housing major research programs to tide patient oriented discoveries over long periods.

SVIMS Directorcum Vice-Chancellor, Dr TS Ravikumar said CFAR would centralize all high end research and would include a host of facilities like population research , health services research,and dry labs. It would also support services like data management, clinical research infrastructure,and biostatistics he added.

The research facility would also focus on inflammation, immunity,and infection. The research center would also work on Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL), Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI) ) research including resistance microbe research. One of the floors would be dedicated to , regenerative medicine stem cell biology and pancreatic islet cell laboratory.

Mr. Ravi Kumar said that SVIMS VRDL facility was the main agency for diagnosis of swine flue in the state. It was also meant to provide support to the neighbouring Tamil Nadu Chattisgarh Karnataka,and Odisha.

CFAR according to Kumar was to work on population registry in a big way, becoming a ready reference on the health status of the people including those suffering from heart didease, kidney ailments and diabetes.Initially the population registry would encompass Tirupati and then expand to Chitoor and Rayalseema.

The population registry is meant to be a zonal level record on the health status of diseases that erupt suddenly. This record would help policy makers evolve measures of control for them.

The VLPK Director, speaking about the support rendered by his company to the project said they were impressed with the past performance of SVIMS and had decided to donate the Rs. 12 crore to them. They were confident of lending future support as well, he told the Hans India.
