Muchipara: A realtor keen on getting his son admitted to a medical college was duped of over Rs.65 lakhs by five people now under arrest, on the promise of admission to a government medical college in Bengal.
The complainant, a resident of Central Calcutta, was approached last year by one of the accused who promised to get his son admitted to a reputable government medical college, sources told Telegraph.
"The complainant's son had ranked 9.8 lakh in a national entrance test. The complainant was to pay Rs 71 lakh for admission," said a senior Lal Bazar police officer. According to Police sources, around Rs 65 lakh was paid to the accused.
Admission to a government medical college in Bengal, calls for a rank within 1200 in the state-wide ranking of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test(NEET). Candidates who rank within 20,000 nationally, usually get a medical seat.
