Fix Price of MBBS admissions to Deemed Universities Also: Ramadoss Urges Govt

Chennai: Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Founder leader Dr S Ramadoss welcomed the High Court order directing the University Grants Commisison (UGC) to constitute an expert committee to fix fees for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Deemed Universities Medical Education.

In a statement here on Saturday, he also welcomed the High Court order to charge only Rs.13 lakh as fees per year for the medical education.

He said to encourage research, deemed medical universities has been started in the country. But, now the universities do not have any body's control and there is no proper rules for them. Without any quota system, they are charging fees of Rs 22.5 lakh per year for medical education, he added.

Mr Ramadoss said in these circumstances, the High Court order will help to save Rs 50 lakh in five years to the medical aspirant students. He said there was a vast difference in fees structure between private medical college fees and Deemed medical university fees. In Tamil Nadu, the private medical colleges are charging medical education fee from Rs 1.85 lakh to four lakh per year from students under the state government quota.

The fees for management quota is Rs 12.50 lakhs per year. In private medical colleges, 65 per cent admissions from the government quota, the average fees comes Rs.6.22 lakh to Rs.6.97 lakh per year, Dr Ramadoss said.

He urged to the Union government to permit the right of fixing the fees to medical education for deemed universities be in the control of state government and also allow to maintain quota systems.
