Jaipur: Medical Students of Sawai Man Singh College Hospital(SMS), have planned a one-day 'sit in',outside the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) against the discrimination that they face in being segregated from the main batch for the rest of the MBBS term, if they get a supplementary in their Ist year. The 'sit-in' is a show of resentment against being christened as the ‘remanded batch’ for their entire stay at college.

The protest has the support of medical students, who do not have a supplementary paper.

TOI reports that out of the 250 students at SMS at least twenty get segregated as a ‘remand batch’ every year.

According to the students of the "remanded" batch, the segregation has an impact on their performances as they continue to be treated as second in line during the entire course, irrespective of their performance in their 2nd and 3rd year.

Students, preferring anonymity said, "It is just like a taboo that we are never able to get rid off. Even in our mark sheets, there is a mention of "remanded" batch.

The Medical Education Department and SMS Medical College justifying this segregation claimed that the conditions in accordance with the Medical Council of India norms, reports TOI.
