Rajasthan: PG seats in SMS Medical College to increase

A request proposal to increase the Post Graduation seats in Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College has been dispatched to the centre by the city’s medical education department .

The MCI had sent a letter of permission to SMSC asking it to increase its MBBS course seats from a 150 to 250 in 2013. Presently , the SMS has 250 MBBS seats, however the PG seats a mere 248 in number.

Speaking on the college’s position for both the MBBS and PG courses an SMSC official pointed out that the MBBS admissions may be capped for a mere 250, the PG courses did not have any such bindings as there was sufficient faculty to teach. The hospital had a base to expand in the direction of post graduation in the hospital.

In a meeting of the Chief Minister’s Sub Advisory Committee, Special Secretary to government, Medical Education Department, Dr Prithvi Raj, that the increase in PG seats proposal had already been sent. The state government has asked for an increase of 55 seats said DR Raj. He also reiterated that efforts were being made to strengthen medical education in the state. This he said was being done in consultation with Doctor’s Associations, UG students' unions and resident doctors' associations.

Out of the 7 new hospitals coming up in the state each would have 100 MBBS seats. All the hospitals happen to be under construction. Said a health department official.
