Rajasthan: Pakistani Girl secures MBBS admission, Thanks to Sushma Swaraj

Jaipur: Mashal Maheshwari, an 18 year old Pakistani girl who had moved to India with her parents from Sindh, on a religious visa, joined Sawai Man Singh Medical College on September 22. All thanks to the Minister for External Affairs, Mrs Sushma Swaraj who extended a helping hand in securing her an admission into the college.

A 91 percenter in her class XII CBSE Boards, Mashal was not permitted to take the NEET — an Indian common entry exam for those aspiring to pursue graduate medical courses —being a Pakistani citizen.

Disappointed, Ms. Maheshwari took a shot with the Minister, by writing to her for help, saying that it was her dream to become a neurologist or cardiologist and promising to serve India, forever. She wrote to the Minister, on May 29, 2016 and received a prompt reply that said "Mashal, don't be disappointed my child. I will personally take up your case for admission in a medical college."

The Minister's office got into action and ensured that bright Mashal got into the medical institution. US Agarwal, the college Principal has confirmed having given the girl a seat in the institution, though the category has not been revealed.

Later, the Minister's office asked Maheshwari to submit the documents required for admission, and she was soon offered a seat. US Agrawal, controller and principal of SMS medical college confirmed her admission, but did not reveal the category under which she had secured a seat.

The Maheshwaris, Mashal's parents have studied at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Jamshoro, and work as medical consultants at a private hospital in Jaipur. The family is seeking Indian citizenship too.

This is not the only case where the Minister has come to the aid of a Pakistani national, another case being that of Aliya Harir, who also reached out to Swaraj for the peaceful return of her delegation, after attending the 11^th Global Youth Peace festival in Chandigarh.

The young woman once again got a moving response from the External Affairs Minister, who wrote on twitter saying,"Aliya – I was concerned about your well-being kyonki, betiyan to sabki, sanjhi hoti hain."

Aliya responded very humbly,, "Extremely overwhelmed. Spoke to @SushmaSwaraj ji who assured that Pakistani delegation of #GYPF2016 will reach Pakistan back safe."

Hats Off ! to our Minister, for playing the real ambassador of goodwill, in troubled times such as these, between the two nations.
