Jaipur: The state Government has softened its earlier stance taken in the case of eighteen medical students of Bikaner Medical College, who were booked and chargesheeted by it. The government has done so withdrawing the FIRs filed against them.

The students had been charge sheeted for blocking road and damaging public property after death of a college mate in an accident. The softening of stand by the government comes in view of the fact that the students were protesting for a cause and they didn’t have any personal interest. The other major reason for the government wanting to let go is that some of them are having difficulty in finding jobs now.

The state government’s home department has written to the Transport Ministry to give its consent for withdrawing the cases. The state government in its letter has further stated that the students might have trouble landing jobs due to the FIRs registered against them; and their registration with the MCI might get cancelled as well.

On August 24,2015 two girls of Bikaner Medical College had met with a road accident on the Bikaner-Jaipur National Highway, killing one and grievously injuring the other. The death of the student had brought the rest onto the highway, to block it- in protest. They had even indulged in violent acts of destroying public property to express their anger and grief. The police then had booked 18 identified and another 150 unidentified students for blocking the national highway and damaging public property reprts Pink City Post .
