Rajasthan: Authorities, Medical Colleges take action to curb Violence

Jodhpur: The Medical college and city administrations have finally woken up to the growing clashes between resident doctors and relatives of patients in the hospital and taken steps to bring down the growing clashes in hospitals between the two.


The focus of the medical college administration has been on the health and fitness condition of its security guards; while the city administration has decided to recommend counselling for both the resident doctors and the medical staff.


Audio equipment along with the CCTV camera installations are to be installed in emergency wards of hospitals as per the recommendation of the city administrations. This is to be done as the emergency is the hub of all clashes taking place between the resident doctors and patients relatives. At a meeting held at the district collector’s office on Tuesday, revamping of security arrangements was decided upon.to avoid further untoward incidents on the hospital premises.


“Besides counseling and installing important equipment in hospitals’ emergency wards, we have given directions to the police to carry out regular patrolling in the hospitals,” Ravi Kumar Surpur, the district collector told TOI.


The S N Medical College administration, in control of the 3 major hospitals of the city, has set up a team of 3 doctors to check the health of security guards.


According to the Principal, S S Rathore fitness and old age of the security guards has become an issue while dealing with the apathy shown by them during these clashes.


“The team of the doctors will check the health and fitness of all the security guards in the 3 major hospitals and would submit the report to us. Based on this health report of the guards, we would provide the list of unfit security guards to the concerned security agency with a recommendation to replace them with the fit and younger guars”, said Shekhawat.


The 3 main hospitals have 1 150 strength of security guards The 3 hospitals being: the MG Hospital, MDM Hospital, and Unmed all of them have a huge footfall from the entire division reported TOI.
