Raigarh: Two Chattisgarh Medical Colleges to be up graded by the CPWD

Raipur: Two Government Medical Colleges in Chhattisgarh have been approved for up gradation by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), in different phases under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The two are among the 73 colleges across the country.


The colleges in for up gradation are: Government Medical College, Bilaspur and Government Medical College, Jagdalpur, informed the Central Government.


The work of up gradation of the two medical colleges under Phase-IV of the project is already underway by the CPWD.


This apart, the up gradation of 13 existing Government Medical Colleges under PMSSY Phase-IV at the cost of 200 crore each is also being undertaken; with a Central share of Rs.'120 crore and a State share of Rs'80 crore.The project is to be completed by December 2018. It was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, on August 3, 2016.


Officials revealed the Central government has also released '34 crores and '49 crores each for setting up the new medical colleges at Ambikapur and Rajnandgaon respectively in Chhattisgarh during financial year 2015-16.


It may be recalled that the Chhattisgarh government in an attempt to overcome shortage of doctors had issued appointment letters to 300 newly appointed doctors under Class-II category . The Health and Family Welfare Department has also issued posting orders for the newly appointed doctors, officials informed.


In April 2014, the Chhattisgarh Government had also taken a decision to recruit MBBS doctors without conducting interviews.


Earlier the government had released an advertisement for recruitment of 200 doctors, for deployment in tribal dominated Bastar and Surguja divisions. About 600 applications were received for the 200 post advertised, officials informed.


The Chief Minister on his part had directed the Department of Health officials to recruit all 600 applicants applying for the job and issue appointment letter with immediate effect The aim behind it being filling the dearth of doctors in different district hospitals.


The Chhattisgarh government also decided to set up 'DKS Post Graduate Institute and Research Centre' in Raipur's 'Dau Kalyan Singh Bhawan' (old Mantralaya building) in April 2014.This decision was taken to promote scientific research in the field of medicine


The Director, Medical Education was asked to supervise renovation of the building for the institute, procurement of equipment, creation of posts, appointment of medical officers and other employees,reports Pioneer.
