Ragging Complaint from Gujarat Medical College: UGC Anti Ragging Cell
Rajkot: Another medical college seems have fallen victim to the ragging menace after the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Cell received a complaint from some of the medical students at the MP Shah Medical College that they are being ragged at the institute's campus.
According to a recent media report, the Jamnagar based medical college's Chief Warden of Radiology Department has been alerted with a mail from the University Grants Commission that it had received a grievance from of its students that they were being subjected to ragging in the college.
In the said mail sent to the warden on 20th October, it has been stated, "Some senior doctors are mentally harassing juniors regarding work."
Consequently, the mail was forwarded to the Dean of the medical college, Dr Nandini Desai, who immediately called for an action on the matter and directed the college's Anti-Ragging Committee to initiate a probe and submit a report.
However, after taking statements from many of the faculty members, senior as well as junior doctors, the Anti-Ragging Committee found nothing on the matter and the college is going to ask the UGC for more details to sort the issue as soon as possible.
"We recorded statements of nearly 12 persons including senior and junior doctors and faculty members, but none of them has complained that any student had been harassed. Nobody has even sent a mail to the anti-ragging cell. We will ask the cell to provide more specific information to locate the victim and take appropriate action," Dr Desai stated to TOI.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported about the suspension of five resident doctors pursuing their post graduations at the orthopaedics department at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER Hospital and Medical College), on account of misbehaving and allegedly ragging junior doctors in the surgery ward of the institute.
