Ragging at SMS Medical College: MBBS student files complaint with MCI, 5 suspended

The complaint was registered on October 19th by the student who mailed the MCI office and alleged ragging by his seniors. The complainant MBBS medico alleged that he was beaten up at the hostel gate, then taken into the Garden and was brutally abused.

JAIPUR: A case of ragging has surfaced at the Sawai Man Singh Medical College (SMS Medical College) via a complaint filed by a fresher MBBS student to the Medical Council of India (MCI).

Based on the complaint, the medical college's administration has suspended 5 MBBS students for allegedly indulging in ragging. At the same time, they have also been expelled from SK Menon Hostel along with 2 other MBBS medicos.

Confirming the suspension, Dr Sudhir Bhandari, Principal of the medical college told TOI, "We have suspended five students in the matter of teasing a junior student. It's just a case of teasing by seniors. Taking brisk action on the complaint, we have sent a strong message and suspended five students."

According to a recent media reports, the complaint was registered on October 19th by the student who mailed the MCI office and alleged ragging by his seniors. The complainant MBBS medico alleged that he was beaten up at the hostel gate, then taken into the Garden and was brutally abused.

After the complaint was forwarded to the medical college administration by the medical council, the authorities initiated an investigation into the matter.

Based on the statements recorded from both sides, the medical college suspended 5 MBBS students until further orders. However, the hostel authorities have expelled seven students accused of ragging, reports TOI.

"In compliance to the SMS Medical College order issued on October 21, the following students are directed to leave the hostel with immediate effect. These students have been expelled from the hostel," the order stated.
