Ragging at Ayurveda College: 4 BAMS students face suspension

Chennai: In yet another ragging incident, four final year BAMS students have been suspended from the Kanyakumari-based Government Ayurvedic College for allegedly ragging their junior in the campus hostel.


Certain sources informed TOI that the victim student is pursuing the first year in BAMS course from the college and is staying in the campus hostel.


As per the information received by the college administration; earlier this week, the senior students and another person, who is yet to be identified; ragged and humiliated the junior in a very bad way in late hours of the night.


After the horrific offence came to the notice of the college authorities, an investigation was initiated by the Anti-Ragging Committee, which is yet to file the report on the inquiry. The action will be taken accordingly.

However, in cognizance of the complaint already submitted, the Dean In-Charge of the Ayurveda College, Dr P Narayanan has placed the accused students under suspension. No FIR has been lodged yet either by the student or the college management.


When asked about the incident, the Dean In-Charge informed The Times of India that a three-member anti-ragging committee of the college headed by him is probing the incident and that action will be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry.


“We will lodge a police complaint after the inquiry,” he added.


Medical dialogues has recently reported about a ragging incident at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) where four final year MBBS students were suspended for beating a classmate allegedly in an inebriated state.


Just a month ago, the institute was in headlines for ragging of first-year medicos at a freshers’ party. After the college administration got a video clip of the incident, four second-year MBBS students were suspended from the medical college hostel.
