Ragging at AIIMS: 9 MBBS students suspended

Bhopal: 9-second year MBBS students associated with the prestigious AIIMS Bhopal have now been suspended after a ragging complaint was filed by freshers of the medical college with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Portal.

Confirmation to this effect was made by AIIMS Bhopal Officials to media, who informed that 3 MBBS students, the alleged "main perpetrators" of the ragging have been suspended for three months while six other medicos have been suspended for a period of one month on account of supporting the ragging at the medical campus

The anti-ragging cell of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal needed to intervene after a complaint was filed by a couple of first-year students on UGC anti-ragging portal about the issue. As per the complaint the juniors were ragged upon returning to their hostel after having their meal

As per Medical council of India (MCI), ragging is defined as "Any conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of harassing, teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student. "

TOI reports that while the complaint was filed on Monday, authorities after quick intervention soon filed back an action taken the report with the UGC on Tuesday
