Ragging: 1st year MBBS students allegedly beaten up at Nalanda Medical College

Patna: An incident of ragging has surfaced from the Nalanda Medical College where the four junior medical students were allegedly brutally beaten up by their seniors.


An anti-ragging cell has been constituted to probe the matter.


The incident took place in the premises of the medical college. According to Dainik Jagran report, the seniors enrolled in the year 2015, 2016 and 2017 allegedly thrashed their juniors from the MBBS Batch 2018.


The victim juniors were immediately taken to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) with grievous injuries.

Following the brutal incident, the victim-students wrote to the Anti Ragging Cell, New Delhi on the entire incident alleging ragging. The cell asked the medical college administration asking for a strong stance to provide its reply within 24 hours.


They claimed that they are scared of the growing incident of ragging and violence. Such incidents may occur in the future.


The victims were targeted for not following the so-called box set by their seniors where they were asked to bow down the head in front of them, change the path if a senior is seen on the way, cannot build a friendship with the opposite counterparts and the list goes on, reports the daily.


Related to the alleged incident, 22-minute audio went viral where the juniors could be heard being assaulted and the casteist comments were clearly audible. Few were heard threatening that if the matter gets leaked, they will beat them again, reports the Dainik Jagran.


Meanwhile, the medical college administration formed a four-member committee to probe the matter. The report after the inquiry will be sent to the apex anti-ragging cell.
