Question Paper Blunder: Second year MBBS exam Cancelled, Rescheduled by KNRUHS

Hyderabad: The second year MBBS students attached with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) may have to appear for Pharmacology exam again.

The exam of this subject was conducted recently on 28^th January but due to an alleged slip up by the university authorities, two sets of this exam's question paper were sent to Osmania Medical College and Chalmeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences; which eventually led to the cancellation of this exam.

In the meantime, all the second year MBBS students, who appeared for this examination, have refused to re-appear for the test. The students had given the exam in the morning and received a message in the afternoon that it had been cancelled.

According to officials at KNRUHS, some medical colleges received Set A and others Set B; which caused confusion among medical college administration.

After realizing the goof-up made on part of the university authorities, the examination staff alerted the higher authorities. Thereafter, the university rescheduled the examination.

TOI reports that KNRUHS issued a circular to all medical colleges declaring that the Pharmacology paper 1 will be re-conducted on February 12, 2019, from 10 am to 12 pm. Terming it a "technical error", the university stated that all medical colleges must "inform students concerned by notification and take their signatures on the notice."

There is no change in respect of other theory and practical examinations schedule for second-year MBBS students, the university clarified, adds Telangana Today, quoting the circular.

However, this decision to cancel the examination has not gone well with the MBBS students, who now have refused to appear for the exam again. The Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) stepped in and conducted a poll where all students wanted the papers to be corrected and no one voted for a re-exam, mentions Deccan Chronicle.

"There should be a single set of paper that has to be distributed by the university. While three sets are printed, only one has to be dispatched to all colleges," said G Srinivas, Advisor of TJUDA.

The affected MBBS students further shot up letter to the university authorities asking them to retract the cancellation and to go ahead with the correction of the paper.

"We students studying in MBBS 2nd year (2016) batch are not ready to write the reexamination of Pharmacology paper 1. We want this exam to be reconsidered and not cancelled…. This examination will be an advantage for a few people who got the easier of the two sets of questions, but cancelling the efforts of all students who took the examination will be in vain. In our opinion, re-examination should be conducted if the paper gets leaked… It might be because of technical issues but we are the ultimate sufferers," read the letter.

Further TNIE adds that TJUDA will be submitting a representation to KNRUHS, urging the VC to consider the opinion of the students before taking a final decision on the fate of the examination.
