Punjab: Joint counselling ordered by centre for Punjab universities

Faridkot:A decision of combined counselling for all medical and dental colleges in the state, including deemed universities has been taken by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The same has been conveyed to the Department of Medical Education and Research, Punjab. The decision was taken in consultation with the law Ministry.


The ministry has also announced the schedule for counselling. The first round is to be held between September 3 and 5. The second between September 21 and 23. The last date for joining after first counselling being September 8 and for the second-round of counselled students -September 26, stated Amit Biswas, Under Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.


The academic session will commence on September 3 and the last date to admit a student against a vacancy in a medical and dental college has been announced as September 30, 2016.


Earlier, it was understood that the three medical universities would be hosting their counselling sessions individually for admissions to their MBBS and BDS courses in the state.


Medical aspirants have been in a state of disarray as the three medical universities of the state: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Adesh Medical University and Sri Guru Ram Das Medical College (SGRDMC) have individually been making claims of conducting independent counselling sessions for their universities.


Alongside them some dental colleges also joined foray seeking to fill their BDS seats in independent capacity reports Tribune.


With the thought of independent counseling catching on with universities of the state, SGRDMC granted independent status recently, like Adesh Medical university also joined foray claiming conduction of independent counseling sessions for its 150 MBBS seats. The same being claimed by the university prospectus too. However , according to a state Government notification counselling for government quota seats in SGRDMC was to be conducted by BFUHS for PMET -2016.


BFUHS on the other hand was reinforcing filling of all MBBS and BDS seats after declaration of the result of PMET and NEET.
