Punjab:Dr. FC Eggleston,former CMCH director passes away

Ludhiana: Dr Forrest Cary Eggleston the man behind the outstanding Christian Medical College ‘s Department of Surgery, has breathed his last in the United states. He was 96 and leaves behind a legacy in the field of thoracic surgery in the form of the Thoracic Department at Ludhiana, the TB Sanatorium at Jubar, Kasauli Hills and the 100 postgraduates working in India and all over the world, trained by him.

Dr Eggleston came to India in December 1953, as a qualified thoracic medical practitioner. He took up assignments at Ludhiana CMCH, Department of Thoracic Surgery and the TB Sanatorium at Jubar, Kasauli Hills and went onto become the Head of the Surgery Department, CMCH in 1955. Under his patronage, the department is now credited as being one of the best in the region.

He was one of the founders of the North Zone Chapter of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI). He has published numerous articles on his research work and also introduced Vascular Surgery & Thoracic Surgery in the Punjab region

Dr Eggleston was also the Director of the CMCH between 1982 and 1986 before retiring and moving over to Mechanicsburg, Philadelphia, US.

Dr. Eggleston is survived by his son, Robert Eggleston who is in USA, said Dr. Abraham G Thomas, Director, CMC, Ludhiana on Tuesday.

Presently the Department of Surgery under the leadership of Dr. Navneet Choudhary, one of the students of Dr. F.C. Eggleston is setting new milestones in various fields of surgery.
