Punjab Pre-Medical Entrance Test (PMET) is to be conducted online on May 15, 2016. This is the first time that Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, will be conducting the exam online. The registration process is expected to begin in the next 10 days.

The online format is in view of ensuring minimum hassles this time around. It is expected that more than 15,000 candidates will appear for the online test to compete for almost 2,000 seats in MBBS and BDS courses in government and private medical colleges in Punjab.

Corresponding with the online test mode, there will be multiple examination centres in the state. Special care has also been taken to have exam centres in periphery areas so that students do not have to spend much time in handling traffic.

Only last year there was a reported incident of delay in exam and students and parents protest, as there was only one centre in Jalandhar. It led to a mismanaged situation, even forcing the authorities to conduct delay exam by 45 minutes.

As quoted by HT, “We are looking at around 20 examination centres, selection of which will depend on the availability of computers. One centre will have only around 500 candidates,” the BFUHS vice-chancellor Dr Raj Bahadur said, adding that the exam will be held in a single shift.

“Online examination is beneficial also in terms of faster results as evaluation is easier. It also curbs chances of any leaks as the paper can be opened only 30 minutes before the scheduled start,” he added.

In addition, modalities for uploading the answer keys after the exam for transparency will also be worked out later.
