Chandigarh: The Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA), Patiala Unit is seeking permanent removal of some Medical Council of India(MCI), inspectors who had come for an inspection at Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, on August 4. They allege that the inspectors misbehaved with senior faculty at these institutions.

Speaking to Tribune, Dr DS Bhullar, General Secretary, PSMDTA alleged, “Dr Mukhopadhyay, Professor of Physiology from Medical College, Kolkata, during inspection misbehaved with senior faculty members, insulted them verbally using words like “you are big zero” and tried to bully them.”

Dr. Bhullar further claimed that the said inspector raised uncalled-for objections regarding the Anatomy Dissection Hall and the College Library.

“This act on the part of the MCI inspector is unacceptable for the whole faculty of this institute and we condemn the same with request to take necessary action against this member. We demand removal of such arrogant persons from the MCI panel which brings a bad name to this highest governing body of medical professionals in the country,” he added.

Not only this, the doctor further alleged that Dr Ramesh Bharti, Coordinator, Professor of Surgery from Medical College, Tanda, and another member of the Council’s inspecting team, pointed out deficiencies without checking the reasons leading to them.He highlighted that insufficient lighting in lecture theatres and the promotion of one faculty member, Dr Kuldeep Singh, in the Surgery Department had led to the pointed deficiencies

The members called for the Council to take stringent action against the uncouth officials. The PSMDTA alleged that this was not the first time that these officials had been high handed in their dealings with senior faculty during MCI inspections, reports the Tribune.
