Patiala: The Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Jalandhar, and NC Medical College, Panipat are two institutions that have been granted admission approval by the Supreme Court appointed Oversight Committee .They will now be able to admit a hundred and fifty students each. PIMS has alongside admission approval has also been granted recognition by the Lodha Panel

Earlier, the MCI after an annual assessment had de-recognised the institute and disallowed PIMS to make any fresh admissions to its medical courses.

“But now after the overseeing committee has cleared us in an August 19 public notice on the Health Ministry website, we expect this permission to come,” said Principal Dr Kulbir Kaur.

The MCI schedule for the MBBS and BDS programmes has been declared . The apex body has directed the states to be over with their first counselling sessions by September 5 and open session by September 13.

Punjab may be running behind schedule, as its PMET is under judicial scrutiny in the face of alleged lack of transparency in result compilation. A complaint to this effect has been filed by parents of children, who appeared for the test, in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, last month

“The hearing is on Tuesday and we have placed the MCI’s latest notification on the admission schedule in the high court,” said Anupam Gupta, Counsel for Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, which supervises admissions.
