Punjab HM announces new medical college for Mohali

Mohali: Punjab Health and Medical Education Minister, Brahm Mohindra has announced the opening of a new medical college in Mohali. A total of five new medical colleges are to be opened in the state, to overcome the shortage of doctors, he further added.


The Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of the 2nd national conference on “Neuro-Socio-Psycho Rehabilitation”.


He also spoke of trauma centers being set up in the near future on national and state highways in Punjab, where specialist doctors would be available to provide timely specialized medical help to victims of road accidents in order to save precious human lives.


The Minister in his inaugural address at the national conference organized in collaboration with the PGI, Chandigarh, said rehabilitation of post-head injury patients was an area of concern and there was an urgent need to address this, reports Tribune.


Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chairman, Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions and Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, who also spoke on the occasion spoke about the teamwork being done by the Rayat Bahra Group in an effort to deliver quality education.The conference was attended by over 150 delegates.


In an earlier story done by the Medical Dialogues team, it was reported that the Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra had announced that the process to open five new medical colleges in the state has been initiated.He had said that the foundation stone for one such medical college at Mohali would be laid down soon.


“It will be after a gap of nearly 60 years that a new government medical college will be opened in the state,” the minister had said
