Punjab: Gian Sagar Medical College directed to pay staff in a month
Punjab: The state government is reported to have directed, and warned the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, Banur, over the issue of payment of salaries to its staff. It has directed the staff salary to be paid within a month, failing which a stern action will be taken.
The college has been in the news over this recent issue because of which the classed have also been suspended in the college. Both teaching and non-teaching staff has been protesting over the non-payment issue since September 2015. There is no OPD facilities being provided for the past one month.
As reported by HT, Medical education secretary Hussan Lal said the college management, which was summoned for a meeting with medical education and research minister Anil Joshi on Wednesday, was given time till April 30 to clear the pending dues of the staff.
“We will also issue them a formal show-cause notice on Thursday to seek details of their financial position and their overall pay plan over the next one month, he said, adding, “If they do not abide by the deadline, we will explore stringent options since the government can’t allow the college to play with the future of students.” He said the minister categorically told them to end the crisis and resume normal work.
In addition he implied that this is an issue of financial mismanagement by the college authorities. Also, the fee structure is high as compared to government colleges, but still there is a financial crisis surprisingly.
In the interim, Class-4 staff, along with senior faculty, continued their protest, with burning effigies of the management on the college premise recently.
