Punjab: Dr Anita Gupta appointed new Principal of GMC Patiala

Patiala: The Minister of Medical Education and Research, Mr. Brahm Mohindra was thanked profusely by the Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association for appointing the senior-most professor, Dr Anita Gupta, as the regular Principal of Government Medical College, Patiala (GMC Patiala), on the basis of merit and as per norms of the Medical Council of India (MCI).


The deputation of medical teachers led by State General Secretary of the association, DS Bhullar which held a meeting with the Minister late in the evening, had a detailed discussion on the long-pending demand for time-bound promotions of medical teachers; which are no financial burden on the state government.


The minister assured the members that this demand would be looked into- on priority basis and with sympathy. He also said that streamlining the department functioning on merit would also be considered. The handing over of the newly-constructed medical college building for running the para-medical training courses on the quiet, to the private Max Hospital, Mohali was also brought to the minister’s notice.


Another deputation of the Patiala branch of the IMA, led by its President, Dr Rakesh Arora, submitted a detailed plan of IMA on de addiction in Punjab. The delegation assured the Medical Education Minister, they would play an active role in assisting the state government in its mission to free the state of drug menace, reports Tribune.
