Maharashtra: Pune girl Shrishti Patil stood tall against all odds against the recently prevailing confusion over pre-medical admission tests in the state. Shrishti is the topper for MHCET this year- having scored 199 out of 200 in the medical entrance exam. The results were declared by Pravin Shingare, head DMER on MHT-CET website.

Speaking about her concerns when NEET was declared, Patil said to Punemirror, "We were informed about NEET in the last minute. I hardly had two or three days to prepare for it, which left me demotivated. I have been preparing for the MHT-CET exams for over a year. I was also scared on the exam day but, I gave it my best shot."

Shrishti, daughter of two engineers, now aims to secure a medical seat in King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College in Mumbai.

She studied Class XI books for the examination that occurred on May 1. "I had no option but to study the Class XI syllabus. However, since I was keen to take the MHT-CET exams, studying that extra bit didn't affect my results. I was expecting to score around 195,"said Patil, who is a voracious reader and also likes to play the piano.

Patil is also an impressive scorer, with 96 per cent in her class XII standard under the CBSE board. She has completed her studies in state board and following NCERT books, while preparing for the MH-CET exam. Patil also implied in her statement said that state syllabus is mostly similar to CBSE board; however, covering class XI syllabus for Neet was a challenge.

Patil also emphasized that she had to study for 10 hours every day. She also took help of mock series to score well. The physics numerical was somewhat difficult; on the other hand, chemistry and biology papers were easy.

Nitin Patil, the topper's father, said, "I always told her to give her best effort to any task. As parent, I never set any expectations for my children. I've never imposed my wishes upon them. Shrishti was always very confident with immense self-belief." Her mother, Ratna Patil, an assistant professor at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, said, "It was through sheer single-minded focus and hard work that she achieved this feat. Coaching centres and mock-test series also acted as catalysts."

Sai Shahane of Fergusson College in Pune is another top scorer with 195 marks. Sai is aiming to secure admission in B J Medical College in Pune. Sai’s parents are bankers, and it is only the love for bio that convinced her to appear for the state medical entrance test. Sai has done her class X from Jnana Prabodhini School.

A statement issued by DMER said that after the process of collection of information related to additional weightage, merit list numbers will be generated and the same will be available on the website in due course.

The CET counselling for admissions to various courses will end by July 31. The DMER had earlier released the optical mark reader (OMR) sheets of 3.97 lakh candidates, who appeared for the exam. MH-CET scores will be considered at the time of allotment of 2,810 seats in government-run institutes.
