Puducherry: Soon, legislation for compulsory 50 pc govt quota in private medical colleges
Puducherry: Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and his administration are looking into the possibilities of enacting a legislation which will make it compulsory for all private medical colleges to transfer 50% of their seat to the government quota.
In a reply to a question posed by Congress member, M.N.R Balan, the Chief Minister informed that 283 seats in the current academic year had been taken from private medical colleges by the government.
Mr. Balan speaking of an already existing condition said, all private colleges at the time of getting their no objection certificates had to sign an agreement with the government, to provide 50% of their seats. However, no government had up till now taken up this matter with private colleges on a serious note; and therefore, they continued to overlook their commitment to the government.
Congress member, K. Lakshminarayanan has now urged the government to take up the issue seriously, by enacting a legislation that makes it compulsory for all private colleges to provide 50% of their seats to the government.
He also pressed upon the government to intervene in the matter of arbitrary 'exorbitant fixation of fee' by private colleges and take action against colleges indulging in this malpractice. AIADMK leader, Mr Anbazhagan supported this demand, raised by the Congress member.
