Puducherry: PG aspirants write to Prime Minister on denial of admission

Puducherry: Post graduate NEET candidates who cleared the exam, and were not admitted by colleges have written to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for immediate action. The need to write to the highest body arose when repeated requests to the Lieutenant Governor, Kiran Bedi and ministerial assurances did not result in a positive outcome.

Allegations have been made by the State's Students and Parents Welfare Association that majority of the 114 candidates selected in three self-financed institutions and four deemed universities have not joined.

"Only those students who have paid Rs 40 lakh, agreed to stay in hostel or signed a bond to work for five years after the course have been admitted in the colleges," revealed a candidate to the Hindu.

Another case of high handedness that has emerged is of a student who was denied admission by a self-financed institution as he had approached the Madras High Court seeking justice. The reason given by the college for denying him admission being that he had not submitted a demand draft (DD) which the candidate said he did to the CENTAC.

Candidates who had deposited the fee on time were not allowed to join the institutions on the pretext of delayed payment. The institution claimed that payment of the additional amount after the Fee Committee hiked the fee structure from Rs. 3 lakh to Rs.5.5 lakh, to be remaining in these cases.

The candidates in their appeal to the PM have asked him to ensure that they join institutions before June 7, the last date for submission of list of admitted students to the MCI.
