Puducherry: A special public prosecutor for CBI case gave an undertaking before the Madras High Court that Puducherry Health Secretary B R Babu and four others will not be arrested in the medical scam case till October 9.

When the anticipatory bail petition of the officials came up before the Dussehra vacation judge Justice G R Swaminathan, CBI special public prosecutor Srinivasan sought adjournment of the case till October 9.

He also gave an undertaking that till such time the case comes up for the next hearing, the accused will not be arrested.

The judge recorded the statement and adjourned the matter to October 9.
The central agency had registered a case against Babu, Central Admission Committee (CENTAC) chairman Narendra Kumar and 11 government officials and private medical college administrators in connection with alleged irregularities in admission to postgraduate medical courses in Puducherry.According to a recent CBI FIR, "the accused officers cheated bona fide students who were issued provisional admission certificates during counseling by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC), but were later denied the seats they were allocated".

It is alleged by the CBI that the public servants abused their official position, entered into criminal conspiracy with private hospital officials and cheated the bona fide students in the admission process in 2017.

The CBI is also probing the role of other Puducherry government and CENTAC officials in the alleged scam.

Apprehending arrest by the investigative agency, Babu and four others had filed anticipatory bail pleas in the high court.
