Puducherry: Lt. Gov Kiran Bedi helps 20 MBBS students resume class
Puducherry: Sri Venkateshwaraa Medical College and Hospital’s management dispute with 20 students over fee issues and the resultant disallowing of course attendance took a serious turn when the lieutenant governor’s office decided to intervene in the matter after receiving student complaints on the issue.
The latter half of last week saw the Lt. Governor and the Health Secretary, Candavelou visit Sri Venkateshwaraa Medical College and Hospital to have a one to one with the second-year MBBS students (2016-17 batch) and their parents. The affected stunts and their distraught parents speaking to the governor informed her of discontinuation of class since May due to management disapproval. This they said had been done despite the Madras High Court’s order in their favour.
The students revealed that the Puducherry government had issued a show cause notice to the college too, giving the management a direction to comply with the court’s order and permit the students to continue their studies.
Bedi who asked the College Dean, Rathinasamy, to apprise her of the situation revealed that the management had segregated these 20 students from their batch following a dispute over the fee, However, he promised to comply to court orders to the Lt. Governor reported TOI.
The team in their meeting with the Dean insisted that he call all the debarred students and admit the mistake on the part of the management and have them resume their courses without further delay or discrimination.
The College management was warned by the Lt. Governor’s team that non-compliance of court Order’s would be dealt with severely.
The students also held a meeting with the representatives of the management and discussed the issue in detail on Thursday.
