Puducherry: JIPMER celebrates Foundation day

Puducherry: On the occasion of foundation day celebrations, at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said that the standards of medical treatment and education set by the JIPMER should be copied by the Puducherry Government Medical College.


Talking about the services provided by the JIPMER, Dr. Bahn, president of JIPMER, said the institute had disproved the myth that only corporate hospitals can render high end medical services. JIPMER is now providing many super speciality services which are affordable by the common man.


Praising about the services provided by the JIPMER, he said, that the research work at the institute has been accorded prime importance and it was one of the prestigious institutions next to AIIMS and PGI, Chandigarh.


Remembering the time of inception of the institute, when JIPMER was proposed to be administered under a society, V. Narayanasamy said, at that time there was of apprehensions from various quarters. After that,Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadass initiated steps and convinced the employees on the benefits. Now, JIPMER takes instantaneous decisions on its own right .


At the end of the function Shri. Narayanasamy thanked to Dr. M.K. Bahn, president of JIPMER and S.C. Parija, Director, for allotting 50 seats for the upcoming new campus in Karaikal. The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation of India (ONGC) has initiated steps to start a super speciality hospital in Karaikal, reports Hindu


Liver Transplant Facility at JIPMER Soon


Recently, the centrally-sponsored Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) has received permission to perform liver transplantation, the first hospital in the Union territory to take up the procedure.


The nod was given based on a report submitted by a four- member expert team headed by Regional Director of Union Health Ministry Roshni Arthur, which evaluated the facilities, equipment, manpower and the faculty needed for the liver transplantation in the hospital.


Director of JIPMER S C Parija said it was the first hospital to get permission for performing liver transplantation in the Union Territory and was one of the very few government hospitals in the country, reports PTI


He said the facility would go on stream in July this year and would be a big relief for hundreds of patients who could not afford the operation cost in corporate hospitals.

The process of listing the patients for liver transplantation would commence next month and the cost would be 25 per cent of the expenditure that one would have to incur in corporate hospitals, the release said.

The hospital was also going ahead with its plan to introduce multi-organ transplantation facility, it added.
