Unfortunate: JIPMER PG Medical student commits suicide

Puducherry: A 25-year medical student from Karnataka, stated to have been depressed following the death of his father recently, allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical and Education and Research (JIPMER) here, police said.


Sumanth, who had joined the PG course in Radiotherapy at the prestigious institute only a month ago, ended his life yesterday by injecting himself a poisonous drug, they said.

JIPMER Director S C Parija told PTI that the door of the room was found bolted from inside and they broke it open with the help of police.


Sumanth's father had died recently following which he was suffering from depression and had taken treatment for it in Bengaluru, police said.

The body was cremated here itself today after the arrival of his mother, they said.
