Puducherry: JIPMER celebrates its 7th Convocation Day

Puducherry: 246 successful students of JIPMER across disciplines received their doctorate degrees on its seventh convocation day. The day saw Degrees being imparted to students of various disciplines including 6 Ph.D, 14 M.Ch,. 14 DM, 14 Post-Doctoral Fellowship , 50 MD , 20 MS and 128 MBBS students.


Best students, interns and doctors of various streams were given away scrolls by Lt. Governor. Kiran Bedi, who was the main guest on this occasion. Other than these, doctors who had performed well in cultural activities, and shown exemplary service towards taking care of the sick were also honoured. 59 candidates received endowment prizes.

Conferring degrees on students Lieutenant Governor, Kiran Bedi called upon doctors to endeavor towards transformative leadership. Ms Bedi said this was to be done keeping in mind the core values of the profession of healing the poor.


Health Minister, JP Nadda’s video conference message was also played at the event. The minister reiterated the immense social responsibility JIPMER students carried on their shoulders, to develop strategies and models of healthcare systems. These he felt, could be adopted for optimal use in the health settings of the country. Government would encourage all positive initiatives in this regard, he added.


Speaking of technological advances, Nadda said that they might have helped in better management of patients, however, they were out of the common man’s reach. He called upon scientists’ doctors and administrators to have these reach the common man at affordable prices.


President, JIPMER, M.B. Khan called for maintenance of quality and equity in order to help doctors maintain challenges faced by them. He called upon doctors to meet the challenge of serving those who did not have access to proper treatment.
