Puducherry: 50 percent medical seats under govt. quota demanded by Forum

Puducherry: A demand for centralized counselling under the Centralized Admission Committee (CENTAC) for seven medical and two dental colleges in the union territory has been raised by the Pondicherry State Students and Parents Welfare Association from the state Government. It has also asked the state authorities to ensure that 50% seats are under the government quota.


The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a notification asking all principal secretaries to hold common counselling for admission to postgraduate and undergraduate medical courses from the academic year 2017 -18.This would include counselling for management and NRI quota seats as well.This was revealed by V. Bala of the association in a press release.


The government should finalize PG course fee via the Fee Committee headed by retired Judge Rajeshwari the association added.


Common counselling has been made mandatory for UG and PG medical courses in all institutions run by the state government, by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare . The UGC, meanwhile, has directed all deemed universities to be part of common counselling for admission in common courses based on NEET marks reports, the Hindu .
