Protest march carried out by medical students against retirement age of faculty and DHS officials

Thiruvanathapuram: The Government’s decision to increase the retirement age of doctors in medical colleges and medical offices in the Directorate of Health Services was protested against by medical students of the state, on Tuesday who marched to the Principal’s office to register their opposition.


The student’s were demanding government’s withdrawal from its decision to raise the retirement age. Joint Action Council, State Secretary, Dr. Mithun Mohan and Kerala Medical PG Association (KMPGA), State Secretary, Dr. Rohit Krishna leading the protest stated that the government ought to make fresh recruitments to the posts instead of increasing pension ages.


The striking student's demands include:




  • filling up entry-level cadre posts,

  • creating new posts in medical colleges and in the Department of Health Services through the existing PSC list.


The leaders said that if the government refused to concede to their demands they would continue with their protest, indefinitely, reports TNIE.


The medical student’s protest is being held under the leadership of an action council which has members from the Kerala Medicos Association, Kerala Medical Postgraduates Association, Kerala House Surgeons Association, junior doctors forum and PSC rank-holders’ associations, among others.
