Proposal for AIIMS at Guntur gets clearance from government

New AIIMS at Guntur has been granted establishment clearance from the Central Government.

Three new AIIMS will be set up in the country at a total financial implication of Rs 4949 crore. All the projects are likely to be completed in duration of 60 months, further divided in pre-construction, construction, and a commissioning phase for completion of each project.

The Union Health Minister JP Nadda in his statement has further implied that the Central government has cleared proposals for three new AIIMS at Mangalagiri near Guntur in Andhra Pradesh at the cost of Rs. 1618 crore, Nagpur in Maharashtra at the cost of Rs 1577 crore and Kalyani in West Bengal at the cost of Rs 1754 crore under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

The establishment of each of the new AIIMS will be completed in a period of 60 months from the zero date (that is the date of the approval of Government of India), broadly comprising a Pre-construction phase of 12 months, a Construction phase of 42 months and a Stabilization/Commissioning phase of 6 months.

As reported by MD team earlier, Union Health Minister J P Nadda recently said the NDA government had already started the process of establishing 17 new AIIMS and 20 cancer institutes in the country.

Once fully functional, more than 16,300 additional bed would be available in these new AIIMS, Nadda said after laying the foundation of a super speciality block under PMSSY at the Guwahati Medical College here. 50 Tertiary Cancer Care Centres were also being set up.

Also recently, under the state cabinet proposal to allot lands to various educational institutes, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been handed over 150 acres for setting up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Nagpur.
