A top executive with private firm’s R Chakrapani was duped of Rs 62 lakhs by 3 persons of the city, on the promise of getting his daughter admission in GSVM College in Kanpur. The three cheats involved in the MBBS admission fraud racket were residents of Vrindavan Colony.

The touts, besides taking the deposit had also kept the original documents of the victim's daughter in their custody.

Chakrapani, who had delayed filing the FIR, fearing that the culprits won’t return the original documents, filed it immediately on Saturday, after receiving a courier from the cheats containing his daughter's documents. Working in Hyderabad and hailing from Kakinada district, Mr. Chakrapani came in contact with the two dupes Rakesh Gupta and SK Upadhyay, last year in September.

The candidate, who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test(NEET), in 2016, failed to get an admission in any of the private colleges. It was then that her father, Mr. Chakrapani received an SMS from Rakesh Gupta, promising his daughter an admission in one of the state government colleges, through the MCI Central Pool Quota. The message encouraged him to go to Lucknow and he was introduced to an SL Upadhyay there, by Rakesh Gupta, who has earlier promised to facilitate admission.

During Chakrapani’s visit to Lucknow, the miscreants made his daughter fill up admission forms of medical colleges

He was taken to GSVM College, Kanpur and introduced to a third person called Maurya, who the cheats said was a senior GVSM functionary, and also looked after admission to the college.

"Maurya took money from me and went inside the medical college along with Upadhyay. He came back with a fee receipt and told me that my daughter would be able to pursue the course from October 14, 2016," Chakrapani telephonically told the TOI.

Chakrapani was also taken around the college and then the two cheats left. The victim in no time, after having paid 62 lakhs, realized that he had been fooled.

Area Dy. SP, Abhay Kumar Mishra, the Hazratganj CO said the three people who played truant for the money gave fake receipts of the college and used MCI's letterhead.

Charges under IPC sections 467, 468 and 471 have been registered against them. "The fraudsters have changed their address and phone numbers but we are trying to trace them," Mishra told TOI.
