Promise of MBBS seat at MAMC: Delhi Businessman cheated of Rs 13 lakh, 3 arrested
New Delhi: The police have arrested three men for cheating a Delhi-based businessman of Rs 13 lakh under the pretext of providing an MBBS seat for his daughter at the reputed Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC).
The arrested are allegedly members of a much larger racket solely operating to dupe parents of several aspirants seeking admission in medical colleges.
The information surfaced after the police conducted an investigation following a complaint filed by the businessman Kumar, who wanted to get his daughter admitted in a reputed medical college for MBBS course.
In his complaint lodged at the IP estate police station, he stated that one of the accused promised to secure MBBS admission at Maulana Azad Medical College when the course began.
The accused men had demanded Rs 30 lakh from him but they first collected Rs 13 lakh as advance. However, they did not deliver on the promise despite taking the money. Realizing that he was cheated, the businessman moved the police.

Subsequently, the 'agents' were caught when they had come to collect the balance amount. The accused have normal jobs but they formed the gang for earning some quick money. Police are currently on the lookout for another member of the gang.
Police officials informed TOI that a case of cheating has been registered against the accused.
The investigation revealed that the arrested were part of a gang and had duped several other medical aspirants in the past. During the interrogation, the officers found out about the crime pattern of the conmen, who first shortlisted candidates whose names figured low in the merit list and approached them with an offer for admission through quotas allotted for army personnel.
The arrested confessed to the police that they used to convince the family members of the students that they would get their wards admitted to the MBBS course with some quota and ask them to transfer Rs 4,000 as admission fee. Later, they would keep asking for money on the pretext of tuition fees and hostel charges. Then, they used to ask for a commission.
Throughout this con process, the MBBS aspirants were asked to fill up 'entrance forms', which the gang members printed themselves. One of the gang members would then pose as a Professor while the others would pose as college officials, in a bid to make the con more convincing. Thereafter, a fake confirmation letter for MBBS admission would be issued on forged letter pads.
The police were on the search for this racket for some time. It is being suspected that the accused used to get all the information regarding the MBBS seats through an acquaintance or another gang member working at some of the medical colleges.
"A team led by SHO, IP Estate, has been tracking the men for quite some time now. It was found that they were procuring the list of students through someone in the college. Efforts are on to nab the rest of the members," said DCP, Central informed TOI.
