Indore: Poor turnout witnessed at MGMMC for First day of NEET counselling
Indore : Very few medical aspirants showed up on the first day of centralized counselling for MBBS and BDS course seats in the six medical colleges, including five private institutions of the state.
Only a 110 as against the overall 700 showed up at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC) on Monday. Of the ones who appeared many were ill prepared for what lay ahead. In the absence of proper documentation, credential verification proofs, application of only 35 candidates could be looked at.
Ironically, some came without bank draft to submit fees, others made errors in the affidavit to be submitted with the application. Very few managed to clear the 20-point checklist for seeking admission into the medical colleges.
According to sources, the reason for this chaos existing was due to the lack of proper communication between the Directorate of Medical Education and the aspirants. Resulting in a dismal performance on the first day of counselling.
"DME office could have emailed checklist to the candidates appearing in the counselling or advertised in the newspapers. Many do not know about the counselling schedule. Alert SMS should have been sent to the aspiring candidates. This gap led to poor turn out and hassles in the counselling," said a source, Reports TOI
According to the College administration and counselling committee number are likely to rise in the next four days of counselling. Centralized Counselling Coordinator, Dr Sanjay Dixit said, "In next four days counselling process will pick up its pace. As it was the first day, students had not come prepared. There is a checklist, which candidates have to follow before appearing in counselling. It should be kept in mind."
