PGIMER professor awarded as finalist 'BMJ Award South Asia 2017'

Chandigarh: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research(PGIMER), has once again emerged in the outstanding category with its Professor, Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Dr Neerja Bharti, having been awarded as one of the finalists for the “BMJ Award South Asia 2017”. She has been acknowledged in the category of “non-communicable diseases initiative of the year” for her contribution to the field of oral cancer pain management.


8 South Asian countries, with over 2000 doctors participated in this award hosted by the British Medical Association in New Delhi


Judged as the second best for medical education, research and also multi-specialty patient care PGI is among the 15 best institutes in India. The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi is the first.


As a hospital, PGI is the second best among the top fifteen multi-specialty hospitals in India and is also acknowledged as the second best for research facilities by The Week-NIELSEN Best Hospitals Survey 2017 published in The Week.


Among the best hospital- Specialities, PGI stands second in pulmonology; third in diabetic care, gastroenterology, and neurology. Specialities of orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics are fourth and cardiology and ophthalmology are eighth.


The PGI hospital is also the second best public hospital in the North Zone of the country.


The first national workshop on “pharmacogenomics using next-generation sequencing” at PGIMER has come to an end.The workshop was Cited as a successful one by Organising Chairman, Dr Bikash Medhi and Organising Vice-chairman Dr Ajay Prakash because of participants coming from AIIMS, New Delhi, ICMR, JIPMER, PGIMER and other premier institutes, ranging from both industry and academia reports Tribune.


The inaugural speeches were delivered by Director ,PGI, Prof Jagat Ram and Prof Rajesh Kumar, Dean, Academics. The topics covered were from basics of pharmacogenomics to advanced topics like next-generation sequencing. There was also a practical hands-on session on DNA extraction, primer designing, and next-generation sequencing data analysis.
