PGIMER New Master Plan- 9 more Super speciaility centres with 300 beds each

Chandigarh: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research's (PGIMER), recently approved master plan, by the UT administration, gives way to the setting up of nine new super specialty centers with around 300 beds each. Along side these will come a two part campus and a complete green campus.


Of the nine super specialty center to come up in the next 20 years, under the approved master plan, "Two centers have been identified so far. We have approval for setting up of a mother and childcare center and also a neurosciences center. These two centers will come in up in the coming years," revealed an engineering official.


For the remaining seven super specialty centers, the official said space had been allocated on campus.


Engineering officials assigned the job state that the institute has been divided into two zones in the master plan. "There will be institutional zone and residential zones. At present, there is a mix of everything. Under the master plan, we will be able to construct ground+6 level buildings in the Institutional are and ground +4 in residential area."


"The existing construction in residential area is only limited to one or two levels, occupying large plot areas, which would be, now utilized for development of super specialty centers, " they further added.


The unplanned nature of the Institute had resulted in various problems said an official. These problems, he said included residential traffic pressure in the Institutional area and non-availability of land for growth.


According to the engineering officials, the new approved master plan, will help in the avoidance of duplicity in diagnostic and lab facilities.


"We have plans to create new super specialty centers in the vicinity of the existing hospitals. Once all the centers would be in one particular area, it will avoid duplicity of diagnostic facilities," said the official to the Indian Express.


The new master plan also focuses on a green campus, the setting up of a new OT complex , and construction of hostels in marked out zones.
